Superstar Culture Continues in Indian Cricket!

Last time we were talking about IPL-2026 which was finally won by RCB for the second successive time. After the long break that hardly needs to be accounted for, we have to refer to the same money-spinning cricket bonanza again because of that stupendous superstar created and established by it. Yes, he is Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Boss Baby as fondly called. Well, there's absolutely no issue in that: the kid was really superb and impressive. The problem was in the hurry to take him into the T20 national side. He is only just past 15 years of age and has all the time in the world to prepare himself to be a part of Team India. But big money speaks and decides. For once he's in everybody would be tuned in to watch him hit the sixes which means more TRP, more sponsors, more ads and so on. Therefore, he made his debut in the second T20I at Manchester against England yesterday, that is on July 4, 2026.

That obviously was the big news. That Sanju Samson, the architect of India's win in the recent T20 World Cup, was dropped to accommodate the super kid was hardly the news and perhaps didn't matter much to anyone, including the cricket mandarins and experts. Suryavanshi's historic debut continued to be the only News even after England humiliated India by four wickets. This became the third straight defeat for Team India under the new captain Shreyas Iyer, after the 0-2 loss against Ireland. Surprisingly, Suryavanshi was not considered for that brief series even though the squad was supposed to be an experimental one. Maybe Ireland was not considered worthy enough for the Super Kid's great debut, because obviously the commercial impact of the debut would not have been as strong as against England in England. Besides, the kid being still younger than when Sachin Tendulkar came into the Indian cricket team could well explain the hurry.

So then, let's set ourselves to watch the super kid hit sixes in the remaining T20 matches against England without bothering about if Team India loses or wins. And who knows! Maybe he'll make his ODI debut too in England. Why should we bother which player accommodates him in the ODI squad? We want superstars! Hurray!
