Banter: The Hurdle Walks!

Call it population explosion, focused development, urbanisation or congested residential buildings and offices, every place in India has been becoming real tough for people to move around whether in cars, bikes, autos & rickshaws, public transport or even while walking , barring perhaps the countryside and the farmhouses, if you’re lucky. You could be better placed for peaceful walks if you happen to live near parks , lake gardens, playgrounds and the like; however, even parks are often crowded thanks to the increasing number of likeminded people as you in search of peaceful walks along with some mental exercises too. Else, your options are extremely limited. The moment you step out of your house into the roads or small lanes all sorts of hurdles surround you: the bikes rushing at you from all sides as if the bikers were the busiest souls on earth, also having a fascination for shortcuts to make it faster; cars inside which the drivers think more like the opportunistic b...

Amusing Dynamics of Two Television Shows!

This post is not a researched article nor even an entertainment news item! It’s an account based on personal observations that, as I perceived, might indicate rather funny amusing goings-on behind the scenes! I’ve decided to write it down here since it involves two huge movie personalities, two great shows and the Sony Entertainment Television (SET). The huge Bollywood celebrities are none other than Amitabh Bachchan and another stalwart but a younger actor Ajay Devgn . The great shows are the Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) quiz hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and the Crime Patrol 2026 hosted now by Ajay Devgn. The two shows are currently being broadcast on SET. Season 18 of the KBC started from August 10, 2026 with its traditional slot of 9 pm to 10.30 pm Monday to Friday. When Amitabh Bachchan seemed to be struggling to finally shift from the accustomed heroes’ roles to character roles the KBC Show, launched on Star Plus channel in 2000, re-established him as an actor whom people of a...

Credit Cards: The EMI Marketing Craze!

No doubt, the EMI has been an integral part of modern living. The home loans , the car loans and the like are meaningless without the EMI tenures and installment calculations . However, of late, the Credit Card issuing banks seem to have gone crazy over marketing of the EMIs. Even for spends as low as a thousand bucks you get the message to 'convert'. They make it overpoweringly easy for you--just click yes and select the tenure, and it's done! Not only that! If your card bill consists of quite a few EMIs, some banks even give you the option of paying your bill in EMIs too! Yes! At certain times it's very useful to be able to split up a good amount, like when buying a consumer durable , into easy installments; but it gets downright irritating if you're reminded (repeatedly) to 'convert' for every possible spend.  It's obviously very profitable for the banks who at the present tumultuous times seem to believe that 'tiny drops can make the ocean...

The Ghosts That Haunt Books and Authors!

It’s only natural that in today’s digital world readers as well as writers know about many writers/authors, particularly those having international bestsellers, without even reading their books. Same here! One such author is James Patterson who has been a prolific writer of numerous novels quite a few of which are bestselling ones, although I’m yet to read any of his books. Now, why am I talking about this author? So suddenly and without any reference to the context? Nope! There’s indeed a reference and a very interesting one at that! I’ve received an email from him! James Patterson! I discovered that while checking the spam before deleting forever the mails inside! The name is there in full with a some added letters/numbers to it and, of course, sent from a Gmail account, as is the norm. From my experience for the last few years I immediately knew it was a scammer or a con book promoter. That it was directed to the Spam could well be due to my action over the years to mark so many...

Not Worth It!

The contrast and the irony of a writer! Several years back I celebrated the achievement of a million views of the previous version of this blog. I just did the formality for formality’s sake as I was well aware of the real scenario. I started my blog in all sincerity and the zeal of a writer enthralled by the coming of a desktop to my writing table and the exciting opportunities of writing online. Back in 2006 when I had my personal computer I started contributing articles/stories/snippets to many of the online magazines and article directories. Then I started my blog the next year and for two years or so found little time to do justice to it. I really opened up from around 2010 and by that time views were increasing. I consider the year of 2012 to be the most productive when I think I wrote blogposts almost every day. At that time Google was having a very prestigious page-rank algorithm . The page-rank number for my blog was zero at first, then 2 and then it climbed to a respect...

Superstar Culture Continues in Indian Cricket!

Last time we were talking about IPL-2026 which was finally won by RCB for the second successive time. After the long break that hardly needs to be accounted for, we have to refer to the same money-spinning cricket bonanza again because of that stupendous superstar created and established by it. Yes, he is Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Boss Baby as fondly called. Well, there's absolutely no issue in that: the kid was really superb and impressive. The problem was in the hurry to take him into the T20 national side. He is only just past 15 years of age and has all the time in the world to prepare himself to be a part of Team India . But big money speaks and decides. For once he's in everybody would be tuned in to watch him hit the sixes which means more TRP, more sponsors, more ads and so on. Therefore, he made his debut in the second T20I at Manchester against England yesterday, that is on July 4, 2026.  That obviously was the big news. That Sanju Samson , the architect of India...

IPL 2026: What Ails the MI and the KKR?

At the beginning of this piece or rather any piece on the Indian Premier League-2026 that I’ve been intending to write for a long time and shelved again and again thanks to various reasons, I must address a concern of mine. It’s about the pitch at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. My concern might be absolutely untrue or even preposterous, but address this I must. Have the curators tweaked the Wankhede pitch in some way like that in the suspected case of the Ahmedabad pitch in the ICC Men’s World Cup-2023 that eventually, as it is alleged, deprived an unbeaten India of the Cup? The pitch or the pitches on this ground have always been known to be sporting, giving opportunities to both the batsmen or the bowlers to excel and yielding exciting results with fighting totals. So, I was shocked when in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final earlier this year at the Wankhede when India set a mammoth target of 254 runs in 20 overs and England nearly chased it down. Since then, in ...
